Gateway Laptop won't boot up Recovery CD - PROBLEM SOLUTION

As a computer user i have had some issues concerning my laptop no being able to boot-up to start menu. i have used different laptops and had different problems but here is a system problem i found in one of my laptops and also got the solution to the problem. this might help you in one way or the other.

HERE IS THE PROBLEM I ENCOUNTERED
I have a gateway laptop that recently randomly turned off and when turned back on, the laptop would start up through the gateway boot screen, then have a black screen with a white blinking cursor. Then it would display a message saying "A disc read error occured. Press CTR+ALT+DEL to restart."

After doing this It would just loop around and do the exact same thing.
So I took it in to geek squad and they told me to order a recovery disc set from Gateway.

I did that, and now when I insert the System disc (which is said to insert FIRST) it will go past the Gateway boot screen, then itll bring up the windows boot screen, then after about 20 minutes, it'll go to a black screen

My Laptop Windows Refuses to Boot - White dash (Hyperlink) blinking endlessly

My windows refused to boot today. It just does the white dash blinking in the top left corner (it jumps down a bit at first, then just keeps blinking endlessly). I'm aware that this can be a result of a poor shutdown or a crash or modified system files or program installation, or whatever. The thing is last night I was using the computer fine and I didn't install anything, modify anything, and it shut down correctly (as far as I know - after I clicked shut down I shut off the monitors which is the normal method of turning off). Firstly, I'm booting from an Windows CD right now and my files are all fine and intact on the C:\ drive. Second, I tried running my Windows 7 CD to go into the recovery system and tried a bunch of things.

Repair and Maintenance Help on How to Get PC5250 F1-F24 Keys to Work Correctly on HP Laptops

Today’s tip comes from my own experience with a recent model HP Pavilion laptop that I use for my business. The problem occurred when I loaded up the PC5250 emulator software that comes with System i Access for Windows V6R1M0. I attached to and signed on to my production IBM i box with PC5250, executed a green-screen command, and hit the F3 key of  HP Laptop Keyboard  to exit the screen.

Nothing happened.


The F3 key didn’t work. Neither did F5, F10, F12, or any other F-key from F1 all the way up to F24. My PC5250 F-keys were dead.

Experimenting with different keystroke combinations, I found that I could get my F-keys to work if I pressed the function key (Fn) along with the F-key I wanted to use. F3 worked fine if I pressed Fn+F3. F12 was activated by pressing Fn+F12. F5 was Fn+F5. And so on.

This was odd. With every other laptop I’ve ever used, you just pressed the F-key and it worked natively as a PC5250 F-key. The F1-F24 keys have never been part of any keystroke combination on any other laptop keyboard I’ve ever used. So something was different on this machine.
